The Centre for Environmental Science and Technology (CES&T) brings together all UGent expertise on environmental science, technology, engineering and management. It is also a central contact point and discussion platform for all education, training, research and services related to environmental science and technology at UGent.
The core mission of the CES&T is to strengthen internal collaboration in environmental science, technology and engineering research and training and to strengthen interaction with multiple external stakeholders (industry, policy makers and the general public).
To achieve this mission, the CES&T regularly organizes events such as seminars, study days, and networking events, both internally and externally with stakeholders. The CES&T also identifies and analyses environmental training and research needs and canalizes those to the best positioned research groups or educational programs to tackle these needs.
1971 The “Interfaculty Centre for the Study of Air, Soil and Water Pollution” was founded to provide a complementary study for academic graduates of different (scientific) disciplines.
1986 The name was changed into the “Centre for Environmental Sanitation”, covering its focus on remediation of polluted environments in those days.
2011 The name was changed into “Centre for Environmental Science and Technology” (CES&T), which better covered the increasing focus on science, technology and engineering that was present in our educational programs and research.
